Wireless Networking Research Group (WiNet)

Advancing dependable connectivity from Earth to space.

The Wireless Networking Research Group (WiNet) develops communication systems and networking protocols for constrained, remote, and dynamic environments. Our research spans connected transportation systems, the Internet of Things, direct-to-satellite communications, and emerging architectures for near-Earth and deep-space networking.

WiNet was founded in 2014 by Prof. Sandra Céspedes in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Universidad de Chile. Since 2022, the group has been based in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Gina Cody School of Engineering and Canada. Research with a Purpose

We believe that connectivity enables scientific discovery, sustainable development, and equitable access to technology.

Our work addresses challenges ranging from safer transportation systems and resilient IoT deployments to connectivity for remote and underserved communities and future space communication infrastructures. We design communication systems that remain dependable under severe constraints in bandwidth, energy, mobility, delay, and intermittent connectivity.

Our approach combines protocol design, theoretical analysis, experimental evaluation, Internet standardization, and collaboration with academic, community, and industry partners.
